Direct Instruction / Te Akoranga
The learning intention for this lesson was to write a mihi to something in our environment.
E whakaatu ana tēnei kiriata i tō mātou noho tahi ki te taiao me te āta wetewete he aha pea ngā mea ka mihia, he aha hoki te take o taua mihi.
This video shows our lesson taking place outside in our taiao where we discuss who or what we're writing for, and then a discussion of why. This is a 2 part lesson, this is part 1.
Reflection / Arotake
Being surrounded by our taiao made their writing a lot more authentic and I think gave them a better appreciation of why we're writing our mihi. I'd love to do a lesson a week, or even a day outside like this.
Things to note
There were heaps of cicadas around and they're a bit noisy!!
