Direct Instruction
Over the first week of the year, I conduct a few team building activities a day in order to generate discussion about the class treaty.
We also complete learning tasks such as writing an introduction on our blogs, learning to navigate the class site and reading a letter from myself and responding to it.
Following the activities we discuss the behaviours that support our class to be successful; from following the kawa of care on the chromebooks, listening to others ideas in group work and being willing to work with anyone in the games. This becomes the foundation for our class treaty.
Reflection
Overall I was really pleased with how the start of the year began. The students were willing to talk to everyone in the class and worked well together - there are some classes which take longer to 'warm up', who might be a little shy when first working with others.
Things to note
This was quite a funny lesson to film as I wasn't sure how many of the students would bring back permission to film. As such, a lot of the shots cut out the majority of the students and only feature those who I knew had permission for.
