Direct Instruction
This lesson shows my Reading class responding to the book 'The Magic Finger' by Roald Dahl, by formulating their own ideas as to what would make THEM angry enough to bring out THEIR own magic finger.
The hope is for these ideas to be incorporated in, and indeed form the bulk of the storyline for my Manaiakalani Film Festival movie this year.
Reflection
This was a quick and easily achievable task for the bulk of the students in my Reading class. I loved the personal voice that came through in their ideas! This was far more important to me than the quantity of writing or talking that they produced. There was evidence of original thought and appropriate responses to the theme of 'teaching someone a lesson' that was evident in 'The Magic Finger'.
