Direct Instruction
The learning intentions for this were we are learning that different generations have had different life experiences. we are learning to write a letter that asks questions.
This is a bit of everything from this process from first discussions after reading to reflecting on the process.
Update:
My Lovely Nan, wrote back to each child individually. They were so excited to get their own letter. She also share the autobiography she wrote about her childhood on Steward Island. The children were thrilled to read about her old house with the 'dunny' that was far away in the backyard and the the taps with only cold running water.
Reflection
I loved this lesson and I think the learners did as well. Watching it back it is clearly not the most structured of lessons. The kids are eager and sometime this leads to a lot of talk happening at once. What I liked about it most way the excitement to connect and the fact that the learners we keen to connect through letters even in this digital age bringing the physical letters together with the digital creation.
Thing to note:
This lesson video has parts from multiple days. Also note the first day we recorded was my birthday and one child way very interested in my age and what year I was each age during my life.
